On Wednesday, June 11th, Midwest Metal Punks will hold a benefit show at Off Broadway to support Action St. Louis’s work aiding tornado-affected neighborhoods in north St. Louis. The show will feature local punk and electro acts.
Following a tornado damaging St. Louis and surrounding communities, city officials claim strong response efforts. On social media, many local activists argue otherwise. Requests for payroll data aimed at verifying city claims were denied.
The St. Louis tornado’s aftermath highlights the ongoing impact of racist policies, both public and private. While government actions are being heavily scrutinized, private lenders significantly contributed to the conditions that made so much destruction possible.
Local artists Stephanie Marie Deirdre and Kat Kissick launched “Paint it Forward,” an online auction to benefit Action St. Louis. The online event is calling for artists to donate work, with all proceeds going to support recovery efforts in north St. Louis.
Volunteers from across the city pitched in to clear debris and roads. Someone has to help clean this up.
