From Dogtown to Downtown, St. Louisans Make Their Voices Heard

Protesters took advantage of this past weekend’s lovely weather to again make their presence felt in downtown St. Louis.

Demonstrators in suburban Webster Groves used Wednesday evening’s commute to make their voices heard.
Despite the heat, the 4th of July holiday weekend brought people out across the region. From south St. Louis County to East St. Louis, voters also used the patriotic holiday to make their voices heard on important issues.
Thousands of demonstrators attended the downtown St. Louis “No Kings” protest on Saturday. The nationwide day of protest served as a platform for people to express their dissatisfaction with numerous policies of the Trump administration.
Demonstrators protested against ICE in Dogtown. They expressed solidarity with protesters in Los Angeles and shared their concerns about democracy, immigrants’ rights, and state violence.
St. Louis protests against the Trump administration’s policies are all over local media, yet protests over Gaza’s humanitarian crisis are largely ignored. This media bias obscures the reality that many St. Louisans support peace and justice for Palestinians.
On March 8, 2025, ICE agents arrested Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia graduate, without a warrant on his way home from an iftar dinner. Since then, protests erupted nationwide, demanding his liberty and emphasizing the fight for freedom of speech and justice against oppressive government actions.
