KDHX Has Been Dead Air For Over 12 Hours | UPDATE: Back On Air
It appears that KDHX has been off the air for over 12 hours. While there have been short periods of dead air in the past few years, this long period seems unprecedented. This falls afoul FCC rules that demand broadcasts be continuous. It also appears that the stream has stopped, which would indicate that this isn’t an issue with the transmitter. There does not appear to be an explanation or notice from management posted to the station’s social media accounts.
This is a developing story. We have reached out to both KDHX and the fired volunteers for comment on the situation. This story will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
UPDATE: “At the end of January, just after KDHX management terminated over 100 volunteers in one fell swoop, the headlines read that KDHX had gone dark. But that wasn’t quite right. The station was still broadcasting pre-recorded programming and auto-spinning playlists presumably, set up by staff. That lasted three weeks, and now the station really has gone dark. Over 12 hours of dead air is deeply troubling and deeply sad. But none of this has to happen. The Board of KDHX can still reach out to the community and find a solution! It is still not too late. The community has resources they are ready to contribute to bring KDHX back on air and online. We say: Gary Pierson, Paul Dever, Joan Bray! Now is the time to reach out. Let’s resolve this crisis together!” said Roy Kasten, who is a member of the Communications Team for the League of Volunteer Enthusiasts (LOVE) of KDHX, who responded to a request for comment.
UPDATE 2: The station has resumed broadcast, though there has been no response to our request for an explanation.
