Poetry: Kaleigh D’Græy
By Kaleigh D’Græy
20/20 Vision
Rain
Washes away
The dirt from our eyes
Striking us
With renewed intentions
Cleansing our vision
So that we may See
Our purpose
Gone are the cataracts
That form when we despair
Hope
Shines brighter
And cleaner
When we pivot
Our gaze forward
Ensuring we turn
A Blind eye
To the Past
Mirror, Mirror
Insecurities creep
Ever nearer
I look at myself
And I loathe and fear her
My reflection hides
Deep inside this mirror
Now In shadows, I weep
My pain, ever clearer
What did I do
To deserve to be here
Hope died
Long ago
In the words you said
This truth, I know
Simply put
I’m a disgrace
Please don’t look
As I try to save face
Picking up the pieces
Of a tarnished past
You looked for treasure
But only found trash
Kaleigh D’Græy grew up in the woods of Tennessee, and received a BA in Psychology from Murray State University in Kentucky. After many shenanigans and adventures, she made her way to St. Louis where she stumbled into the poetry scene, and has been falling upwards ever since. If you would like to read more from her, her works have also been featured in the anthology ” Not Ready for River Styx” which was published by Back of the Class Press in 2023.
