Fifteen Windows Gallery Gets the Party Started for Paint Louis
This Labor Day weekend, Paint Louis takes over the Mississippi River flood wall south of the Gateway Arch yet again–the largest graffiti festival in the world features over 400 graffiti writers from around the globe, and displays the four elements of hip-hop: graffiti, breakdancing, rapping, and DJs. The flood wall is also recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest graffiti wall in the world, and festival goers get to watch the artists work in real time as they freshly adorn the graffiti wall amongst the other live festivities.
On Thursday, August 28th, Fifteen Windows Gallery on Cherokee Street hosted an Art Show and Pre-Party not just to gear up for the event, but also to showcase other work from over 20 artists that are also participating in the festival, including Lady Pink, Dr. Dax, Vizie, and more. This show takes the artists’ work beyond the flood wall, displaying their other media and making their work accessible in a different way.
Bryan Walsh is the owner of Fifteen Windows Gallery and has also been an artist coordinator with Paint Louis since 2019. “This art show is important in showing that these artists can make work that can be shown in art galleries, museums, homes, anywhere,” Walsh said. The show includes a broad range of media, including paintings on canvas, wood, and metal. The work in the show will also be for sale to the public, giving patrons the unique experience of taking home a piece from an artist they may usually see shown in a non-movable medium, such as graffiti.
Although the party was yesterday, the show can be viewed through Saturday, September 27th at Fifteen Windows Gallery (3155 Cherokee St., St. Louis, MO 63118). Fifteen Windows Gallery is open Thursday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. or by appointment.
